Entertaining idol thoughts
Entertaining idol thoughts
9 June 2003

WAITING for hours on end just for a minute chance of stardom
would be a foreign idea to most.
But that's what thousands of young Melburnians did at
the weekend to try to become one of the 100 finalists
on the yet-to-be-screened Australian Idol.
The response to the Melbourne auditions was so huge organisers
have decided to run more today at the Melbourne Park Function
Centre from 8.30am.
On the first day of auditions on Saturday some hopefuls
camped out the night before, with most turned away after
a brief 30-second audition.
Australian Idol official judges Marsha Hines, Mark Holden
and Ian Dickson weren't even required at the weekend.
Hopefuls went through two auditions and those who got
through will see the judges this week to see if they make
it to the final 100. After that the 100 are culled to
40 and that's where the real action starts.
It's likely that in that 40 there will be a few Victorians
who will get through, judging by the talent on offer at
the weekend. One of those may be Somalian-born Liban Issak
Aden who has been singing since arriving in Australia
six years ago.
"I used to sing in my home country a little, but
more so while I'm here," he said.
The public will have to wait a while to see who becomes
Australia's pop idol- the show goes to air in early August.
The judging panel consist of singer Marcia Hines, former singer
and now writer and producer Mark Holden and BMG record label
representative Ian Dickson.
