Australian Idol- James, Emily, Dan and Roxane progress to the Top 13

Monday 5 September 2005

James Kannis, Emily Williams, Dan Spillane and Roxane Lebrasse were the remaining wildcard finalists to make up the Top 12 which turned into the Top 13 after the dramatic wildcard verdict show.

On tonight's live result show, the Idol judges named two contestants to progress to the top 12, while the final spot was voted by the public.

The first judge's choice finalist to be named was James Kannis, his version of "Drift Away" proved popular with the judges who saw great potential from the 19 year old. The next surprise judge's choice finalist was Emily Williams with her version of Lauryn Hill's "To Zion". Hosts James Mathison and Andrew G then named the top two most popular contestants voted by the public over the last 24-hours, they were Dan Spillane and Roxane Lebrasse. Of the two, Dan progressed to the Top 12. His performance of "Gimme Some Lovin'” by the Spencer Davis Group proved popular with the national voting audience while Roxane narrowly missed out again following the controversial result in semi-final two when Laura Gissara’s inclusion over Roxane saw alligations of sympathy votes and vote rigging.

However following the “closest vote in the history of Australian Idol” the judges decided to interrupt the congratulations and commiserations and, after calling over the executive producer Greg Beness, decided to deliver a final twist. Suddenly the Top 12 turned into a Top 13 when Roxane was told that she would be included to make up an Australian Idol Top 13 for 2005. Roxane Lebrasse performed “All By Myself” again and was joined by the rest of the Idol finalists on stage.

Tune in on Thursday for "Inside Idol" at 7.30pm for all the behind the scenes action from tonight’s dramatic show and when the Top 13 idol finalist move into their new home, Idol HQ, for the remainder of the contest.

And tune in next Sunday at 7.30pm when the first of the themed shows goes live when the Top 13 constants will perform "Australian Made" songs in the next stage of the Australian Idol 3 2005 competition. And the results show next week when two contestants will be eliminated.
