AUDITION DATES AND VENUES

Ten and Grundy Television are pleased to announce auditions for the fourth series of Australian Idol will commence on 5 March 2006, in North West Queensland’s ‘Oasis of the Outback’ - Mt Isa.

As well as the state capitals, Mt Isa, Byron Bay, Broken Hill, Newcastle, Albury, Townsville and Alice Springs have been included as audition locations for the first time, and producers have increased the age limit of auditionees to 30 years of age (under 31 years of age as at June 30, 2006)

In addition to an expanded audition tour, a number of exciting changes have been made to the format of Australian Idol which will be revealed soon.

“By including seven new cities in the audition tour, we are giving contestants who might not usually get the chance, due to geographical challenges, the opportunity to audition,” said Australian Idol executive producer Greg Beness

Kyle Sandilands, Judge of Australian Idol added, “This year on Australian Idol we're doubling our search for the newest stars in Australian music, making it the biggest talent search this country has ever seen

“Marcia, Mark and I all agree on one thing:, we have to find the best undiscovered singers available, and maybe the worst too, they're always fun!" || The next round

The top 100 contestants went through to the next major competition round which was held over a week in June 2006. Their performances were recorded in Sydney at the Seymour Centre.

Of these 100 participants, just the top 25 [down from last year's top 30] will progress to the next performance round. Once the top 25 have been selected, they will be split into smaller groups. Each week a different group will be featured on the show.

Viewers then have the chance to cast their vote for who progresses through to the finals. Through this voting process, the top 25 will be trimmed down to just ten finalists.

From mid September, these ten finalists will perform in front of a massive studio audience and the show will be broadcast live. At the end of each live show, the studio audience and the home viewers will be able to vote for their favourite performer. Each week, the number of performers will be reduced until there are only two contestants left standing.

In a major live event, the final episode will feature these two aspiring stars competing for the ultimate title of Australian Idol, chosen by the national TV audience. The next Australian Idol will then be announced.
